Are UK Lottery Winnings Taxable?
UK lottery winnings are entirely tax-free. HMRC does not classify lottery prizes as income, so there is no income tax, capital gains tax, or inheritance tax due on the prize itself at the time of winning.
Important exception: Any interest or investment income earned on your prize money after you receive it is subject to standard income tax rules. If your winnings push your estate above the inheritance tax threshold (£325,000), potential IHT may apply on death.
